Some people no matter how many times they seek help are unable to successfully stop using drugs or alcohol and recover from their substance use. At Diberville Dual Diagnosis we specialize in diagnosing mental health disorders like bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and panic and depression disorder. If a person is dealing with substance use issues and a mental disorder at the same time we refer to that as a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder which can make addiction recovery unsuccessful in the long term.

Our patients are given extensive full assessments when entering our dual diagnosis program and if a mental health problem is evident both the addiction and mental health issue are addressed and treated. Many people begin their use of drugs or alcohol as a way of coping with stress and depression and are in need of intense treatment to recover. Providing treatment for the addiction without addressing and treating mental health disorders many times ends up in repeated relapse and unsuccessful recovery.

  1. Do you frequently use drugs or alcohol to cope with depression, anxiety, or stress?
  2. Have your attempts to stop using drugs or alcohol failed over and over again?
  3. Do you want to stop using drugs or alcohol but are unable to stop on your own no matter how bad your life has become?
  4. Have you been diagnosed with a mental health disorder but stopped receiving treatment?

Mental health problems only get worse when a person uses drugs or alcohol and long term recovery from substance abuse is next to impossible to maintain when depression or anxiety exists. With a proper mental health disorder diagnosis and effective treatment for both illnesses at the same time, maintaining abstinence from substance abuse and long term recovery are achievable. If you or someone you know has had problems with substance abuse, drug addiction, or alcoholism and have tried to stop repeatedly without success, maybe we can help.
